I'm looking to get a rear blade for my BX for use in moving snow off my gravel driveway. I'd be interested in any advice or experience from you BX users.

Tractor Supply has a 5 foot blade, Is that too big?

Any bad experiences using such a thing for snow on gravel?

thanks!

The five foot XB series are designed for your BX size tractor. For moving snow, I would check the blade height. More height is better. I think they are on sale now at TSC.

I think the Landpride is 3-4" higher at 13.5" than the Woods, or KK blades, but is probalby more expensive than the KK by quite a bit.

I picked up a 2yr old never used/sold Land Pride RB-72 for $250, its 6' and probably border line to much but I love it. Its heavy, 263lbs, but it bites and will clear some snow. I run chains on all 4 and so far no issues with power. Granted I may not be able to move 10-12" of heavy wet stuff with a full bite of the blade. I started with a blade designed for the smaller tractors, to light and too flemsy.

The blade I'm looking at at Tractor Supply is just 10" high.. but that might be enough for me.. Heavier snows generally bring out the blower or the bigger tractor/loader.

It's listed on the website for $299 and they apparently are on sale.. not sure how much that will take off the price..

I bought the standard 5ft blade from TSC and it works well with my BX1850. Sometimes I do wish that it would raise a little higher, but I have never hit the ground with it fully raised and I have some pretty steep hills. I preferred the extra weight of the standard blade over the increased raised height of the xb blade also I think that the standard blade is taller. P.S. I also looked at the more expensive blades (landpride, woods, etc.) I just couldn't see any advantage of spending more money for what I was going to do with it. (plow snow/grade/spreading) If I wanted tilt I would buy a better name blade but most standard blades are for the most part the same just don't buy the really cheap ones, you can tell by the thickness of the metal used.

I have the 5', full size King Kutter blade (yellow one) for my BX2350. I've never had an issue with lift height. I'd think for clearing snow you'd want the tallest blade you can get.

Jibber --

I purchased that five foot XB series from TSC just after thanksgiving for $239 (on sale - I think) and outfitted it with the stall mat cutting edge modification described in one of the previous posts but have only used it twice so far with this NE Ohio winter. Worked great each time on my concrete driveway and I have not picked up the shovel for anything other than the walk and stoop.
