Grading rear blade skid shoes

I have a driveway that is about due a repaving and I'm thinking the new 84" rear blade I intend to use for snow removal may tear up some of the rough (high) spots. They make skid shoes/plates for that blade. Is it worth the investment? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif That blade is probably around 300 lbs.

I use mine on a gravel driveway and have had good luck with them. The shoes are expensive though, $175 for a set of shoes for my Woods RB72. Have you looked at getting a heavy rubber cutting edge? If you can find it in your area mining belt would make a great cutting edge.

It may seem funny but I have seen trail whls that worked well but they take up more room.

I had skid shoes on my old blade and they worked better than no shoes, but they left slight trenches until the drive froze. You can pick them up at TSC and make a bracket out of angle iron and gaspipe quite cheaply, under $30.

I adapted the wheels from my landscape rake to my new blade and they can't be beat! A few of us have wheels on our blades and are very happy with them. There's a thread with pics here somewhere.

I'm using a single guage wheel on a 84" land pride 35 series rake. www.landpride.com

Everyone I've talked to has better luck with the wheels vs. the shoes.

Ask your dealer what he sells more of, the wheels or the shoes.

Talk to Henro. He has posted pictures of rear wheels he installed on his blade. They are very impressive.

I have pictures of some I made and installed on the rear blade but it's too embarrassing to post them after seeing Henro's.
