JD 2210
Hi All,

I think for some rough grading work I'm planning for the spring, I should purchase a box blade. I have a JD 2210 and wonder which one would be best? Should I go with the Frontier (I do like green) or should I go with another brand? Also, what width should I be thinking of? The 2210 is about 48" wide at the tires, should I be thinking larger? The Hp of the 2210 is 23. Here in CT we have lots of clay soil and tons of rocks. Any thoughts?

Hello. I would think in clay and rock you would not want to go any larger then 48''. This size would let you drop the rippers and not bring you to an abroupt stop. It would cover your wheel base for using it forword or backwords. ''United'' makes a heavy well made boxblade at a good price.

I agree, you'd want a Box Blade big enough to cover the tractor's tracks. Sounds like a 48" would do that. As for make, I've heard lots of good stuff about First Choice ones. No dealer around me handled them though so I got a MF and it does the job for me.
I think a BB wider than your tractor would be harder to work with and it would bog down the tractor easier.

Thanks to those who responded. I'll be looking at some 48" BB's for Christmas! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

JD Fanatic,

Wish you lived close by, I'd let you take the landpride out for a drag. I havent given it any heavy use yet but it seems really well made.

I have one of the Land Pride 35s. works good as a counterweight too.

If you have Gearmore available in your area that might be an option.

I have had good success with mine.

I completely agree with getting it wide enough to cover your tracks.

I have the same JD 2210 with a 48" Frontier BB (the low profile version). It is smaller in box size capacity which results in lighter weight on the 3 PH. The full size box blades weigh 450 lbs or so and the low profile is 285 lbs or so. For me the low profile has been adequate. I would think the full size BB would tend to max out the capacity of the tractor with a full load in the box.

horseman, if you do get to give the blade a good workout, let me know your thoughts.

stopher, what kind of projects have you done with the low-profile BB?

Mostly driveway grading. Removed the old mulch, pine straw and other stuff that had been down a while. It was damp material, but not soaking wet. If I loaded up the blade it would spin the tires (turf) in 2wd and regain the traction in 4wd.

My concern when I shopped for the tractor and implements was the weigh of the box blade empty was 450 lbs or so for a full size and a 3PH lift capacity of 700 lbs (?). I believe in leaving room in the capacities and not always working it to the max.
