Rear end inspection plug

While hooking up my bush hog's pto, I managed to push the inspection plug into the differential case. I managed to touch it once, but it was covered with oil and got away. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
1. I think it was flexible plastic, do you think I could leave it inside without hurting the gears?
2. If not, is there a quick way of getting into the case, without splitting the tractor?
3. Where can I get one?

I bet you didn't do that to your Bultaco?
On the lighter side, the gears probably will just chew it up. If you can't find a plug right away, go to a hardware store (not Lowes or Home depot), you know, the mom and pop kind, and get a good old fashioned CORK and stick in the hole!!! My wife add this as she's in the kitched preparing dinner and I am chuckling about my answer to your post....A store that sells winemaking supplies will also have corks and stoppers.

When i worked on ford's the tranny guy use to knock all sorts of parts into manual transmission's he said in 30 yrs he's never had one lock down... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Only problem might be if the tranny is the hydraulic reservior too. I confess I don't know much about the Mistu's, but all the Yanmar's I've had use universal hydraulic-transmission fluid, which is both the hydrualic fluid and the tranny lube. If the plug gets chewed up, you could get the debris into the hydraulic system depending on what type of filtration the system has.

Well the best thing I could find was a toilet tank stopper plug. It just fits, so I superglued it to the metal to keep it from pushing in. The I turned the two point hitch base upside down, to keep it from getting pushed out. Since the only 2 point implemnet I have is the broken tiller, I'll just pretend it is the pto shield. Naturally since the plug pushed into the rear end, it decided to rain, and we had the 2 most violent storms of this year, last night. So another $21 can of hydraulic oil to flush out any water that got past the tarp I threw over the tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
