Rear Finish Mower rear finish mower for Kubota BX2230

I need a good suggestion for a rear mounted, rear discharge finsih mower for my Kubota model BX2230 please. I think it is a CAT 1 3PT hitch PTO. The tractor's rated HP is 16.7. The book specifies the rear PTO as "SAE 1-3/8, 6 dplines" and Revolutions as "1 speed (540 rpm at 3068 engine rpm)". I take this to mean that the rear PTO will produce 540 RPMs for an engine RPM of 3,068 RPM.

I need to find a reasonably priced unit that I can at least service. The Kubota belly mower was an absolute nightmare to get off and on.

Any help and direction that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I'm curious as to why you have had so much trouble mounting/unmounting the MMM. I have the Bx2230 with a 54" MMM, and am amazed how easily it unhooks and slides out. As long as I have a level concrete floor to work on, I've never had any problem with the mid-mount deck. As long as I'm on a concrete surface, I'd rather install the MMM than a rear mower. I don't bother rotating the gauge wheels to face sideways, as the manual suggests. The wheels slide fine on smooth concrete. The other benefit of the MMM over a rear finish mower is improved turning radius, and better maneuverability around obstacles.

I agree that the BX models has the nicest methods of removing the MMM deck. The only hardest part is reattaching the mid pto shaft after its been remounted. The RFM is probably the easiest way to go though since there is no bending down and pulling out the deck. I watched my father attach and reattach his RFM on his MF and its pretty easy, same way attaching a bush hog.

As for finding a RFM, it is just a matter of preferance and how much you want to spend. You could get a 48"-60" RFM at your local TSC or go to a dealer and get a bushhog brand or landpride etc. Just be sure you get the JR model or XB models for the BX due to the clearance lift issues on the full size type. It looks like you have already done most of your homework with the specs so its just a matter of looking at RFM at store or dealer and decide which fits you the best. Warning - when you mentioned 540 rpm at 3068 engine rpm you will find that here on TBN everyone will have various opinions on this, just like me too. I prefer not to run that fast as the BX handles the pto nicely at 2400- 2800, depending on terrain, how much it needs to do, etc. Some beleive it best to run nearly WOT at 3068 as it made to run like that. I sold Caroni finish mowers for several years. The rear discharge with remote grease fittings was the best I have had experience with. I never had a warranty issue of any kind. They are light enough for your size tractor but well built. If you ever did need parts, Agri Supply has everything you would ever need.

Land Pride and Woods make premium mowers. Have used both and have a Woods now. Don't have any experience with Bush Hog mowers but I have a Bush Hog post hole digger and it's an excellent piece of equipment. I had a 6' Caroni RFM for a couple of years. For the money they are not a bad mower. It was just to light duty for the way I use a mower. The arms that support the wheels are stampings. After a year of bouncing on the ground these arms broke from metal fatigue. Also the spindle housings are mild steel fabrications and not castings. It doesn't take much of a thump to a blade to warp these spindle housings.
