I have been slowly getting the electrical system on my 89 YM 180D back in working order, the past owmer did some welding on the tractor, that must have fried some wires and the rectifier (now replaced). Also it has been rewired perhaps due to the welding and removal of some of the safty switches like the PTO safety and in gear safety which have the wires disconnected and jumpered.

I was very happy to get the both front lights high/low and horn working but the rear lights / flasher still do not work; one problem is the electrical diagrams and pages in the service manual I bought are missing (&^%$#$^???) and the electrical schematic I have is very pixilated. I cant seem to locate the flasher relay; It may be behind the fire wall under the dash (a hard place to reach). it may be just a matter of replacing the flasher relay.

My service manual is from a 186D; its very close but not exactly the same. Any one have a complete electrical section they could email / post? Repair suggestions; locations of flasher relay and access would also be appreciated.

Tanks BC Dave

Here's a photo I made when I had the cowl off my YM186D. The flasher relay is lower right in the photo, below the tach. Hopefully your later YM180D is similar.

Access? Forget it. I had a hard time getting micro-water pump pliers on the tach cable connector next to it. If the relay is defective I would pull the connector off it and mount a replacement elsewhere.

Dave, If you can't find the old . Just run you a hot wire from fuse block to a new flasher. from the flasher to a switch. from the switch to the lights . then to ground. I have a push pull knod for my flasher lights. or you can run the hot wire to the switch 1 st then to the flasher then the lights. I may be telling you something you already know

Waow! Great photo I saved that for future refrence; I had the dash off when I first bought to glue it back together and repair / replace bulbs; but it never looked as neat as in your photo; I have a better understanding now and even clearer understanding from your photo; thanks!

Yes; as I feared its difficult to take apart and access; you need the "Yanmarian Elf's" to access the dash; thats why I was asking ... ---- I might --- be able to access the flasher relay from the front cover plate ... fingers crossed ... I'll have to wait for the snow to thaw now though (May?) .... so I have lots of time to research ....

What year is your 186? My 180 is a 1989 and very similar but they started updating things after 89; from what I'v matched with the vin numbers.

Yes Ive considered jumpers to the flasher; I already replaced the wires to the rear lights. The wiring harness hides lots of wires and where they connect; thus need a clear wiring diagram. Though I skip the OEM wires with the jumpers ... yes I have a 2 stop pull switch for flashers; but not sure why 2 stops. Its been broaken since I owned it.

I think YM186D was 1980 through 85, and mine has Column Shift so it would be in the later half of that range. SN 42xxx if that means anything. I don't have any more precise information.

my guess would be, someone put a head light switch there. 2 stops 1 would be for low beam the 2 nd for high beam
