I got a bit overly aggressive trying to move some heavy (and high) snow with the rear mounted blower. The rear PTO suddenly stopped. The shear pins didn't give (probably due to the snow already clogging up the auger). There was no unusual sound or anything indicating anything major snapped at the time. After clearing out the auger, I was able to freespin the drive shaft and the auger by hand. But, it would no longer work by engaging it via the lever. I called up the local dealer and they think either the clutch is shot or some gear inside the drive box broke. He quoted me with something rough to get it fixed at the shop: something like between $1000 to $1500 or more. My question is whether I should attempt to fix something like this myself. I am handy with small tasks and understanding most concepts when it come to anything mechanical but I have never done anything hardcore with a tractor. Plus I may not have the tools to perform the job. Any tip or suggestion on either the damage or the repair would be appreciated.
