Rear PTO for Gravely (Ariens) tractor

Hi group,

This is a picture of the pto shaft that was hooked up to the mower deck that I removed the other day.

That's the front left wheel behind it, to give perspective.

This is on a Gravely 18H tractor. For argument's sake, let's say that parts are no longer available for it. That being the case, is it, in theory, as simple as running a PTO shaft from this existing shaft out to the rear of the tractor in order to get a rear PTO output? If the PTO kit is available, I'll probably just buy it, but I'm wondering about doing myself for another tractor that I have that I know I can't get any parts for.

I am not sure you can't get parts for that tractor. A good starting point would be Johnnie Shubert, Co. of Newton, NC. I have forgotten the number, but they for years sold more Gravely's than any dealer--I think--in the nation. I want to say the number is 828-464-3197, but I cannot be 100%. I do know the area code is 828, though. Last time I was there, which was about two years ago, they had several 18H tractors on the lot. They had accepted them on trade and in many cases, kept them for parts. They might be able to help you with this and keep you stocked in the future. Nonetheless, a good resource for you with your tractor.

You were just one digit off - 3797. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Sadly, they didn't have any rear PTOs for my model, so the search continues. But thanks!
