I have 1610TS, and notice that at the back of the tractor pto hook up is leaking. Does anybody no how big of a job it is to fix.I do not no if it is a o ring, or a gasket. Thanks for any help, Rambo

Check your transmission for a breather. If it is plugged, you may see your PTO leaking because of pressure.

Most PTO's I have worked with use seals. Seals or O rings are simple to change and seals are universal. Always try to identify a seal number before removal by cleaning the seal carefully with solvent and a tooth brush. Regardless of a number, once the seal is removed, it can be replaced by measuring the outside diameter (where it is inserted) and the shaft diameter (inside seal diameter). Measure with dial calipers or something accurate (in mm if possible, inches can be converted). Any industrial bearing supplier can provide you with a proper seal if the outside/inside diameters are provided.

Seals look like bearings, but are flat and have a thin lip of rubber around the PTO shaft. If seals are pressed into a removable housing (usually four bolts), remove the housing and tap out from the back. If pressed directly into the transmission housing, carefully drill the seal on two sides and remove with a small slide hammer or pick.

Easy fix, you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks for the reply SVCGuy. I don't believe it is a breather problem or stopped up breather because it leaks just sitting still and not even being used. I have a piece over the shaft (not sure of what the name of it is), but I can hold it by hand and the PTO still turns. I took out a set screw and the grease fitting and I still can't get it to come off the shaft. I have to get it off before I can take the bolts out to get the plate off because it will not come over that particular shaft. Thanks.

Is the piece on the shaft a conversion to a larger PTO shaft size?

Yes, Like a shaft over a shaft.

Standard power takeoffs have a groove around them. Usually there is a bolt, a pin or push pin that needs to be removed or depressed to allow the second shaft to be pulled off, much like a PTO shaft end. Anything looking like a push button or pin?

There should be a pin under the grease fittings. You may have to " slip " the clutch a few rounds to line it up for removal.

Finally, there was a pin in the shaft that I did not notice and knocked it out. Remove the seal and replace with a new one. I believe the problem is solved. Thanks guys for the help!
