2005 JD 5103
I have a JD 5103 with 512 loader, a model prior to JD adding the rear SCV's as standard. The local dealer quotes me $800 to get the rear remotes added with lever.

Is it possible to tie into the loader joystick with shut-off valve somehow and use the loader joystick for the rear SCV control?

Has anyone does this and does it pose any risk of t-ing into the hydraulics?

Or is there another way of handling this? Or do I just have to break down and either get the dealer to do it or do it myself after purchasing the kit?

This is how MF does it with the GC series, and the 1523. The loader lines unplug off the controller, and you plug in what ever you want to run. Gotta take the loader off tho...

You could run hoses like mentioned if your loader is off, but that is probably not the best way to do it.

Electric or manual diverters are a possibility-but that will be a plumbing nightmare and will end up costing more that the factory rear remotes will.

I say suck it up and buy the kit and install it yourself-it's not real hard if you know how to turn a wrench.

Suck it up eh? lol

Man I hated to pay the green dealer anymore.

Unfortunately it's not a quick attach loader, so I guess I could block up the cylinders if I had to in order to relieve pressure, and put some quick-connects out of the joystick to swap them out.

I may just purchase the kit and be done with it. I know several who use a T with valves to control batwing shreaders that require 3 cylinders. Not sure how they do it though.

That would work, but you still lose control of the loader. And its still a mess to plumb. You would end you spending I guess about $200 or so in fittings, QD's and hoses...

The factory top-n-tilt option for the JD 4x20 series uses an electric diverter valve from the loader SCVs. Mine's not equipped with it, though, so I can't comment on use. I only needed "top", so I just added a third SCV and hydraulic toplink.

I find it strange that a lot of small tractors have 2 and 3 SCV's and this 50 hp doesn't have any, and can only have 1 added if a loader is attached. It's mind boggling to me for some reason, and down right unfair. ;)

I do know that the hydraulics aren't that strong on the 5103. I can tell by raising the box blade and move the bucket at the same time it tends to stall one or the other.

I'm assuming the Top-n-Tilt is the third member being hydraulic and one of the lift arm adjustments hydraulic? Man I wish I had more hydraulic capacity.

I'm used to our 130+ hp farm row crop tractors and it's hard getting on my 5103 at times with such limitations. Although the loader is priceless although I wish I could have sprung for a new tractor with MFWD.

After using my father-in-laws Cat MFWD backhoe, it's even harder to get on mine. I was pushing brush piles larger than some houses with no problem and then there's my tractor. :( But it mostly does what I ask of it.

Thanks for the info. I might call the local JD dealer and see what it'll cost me for the kit. My cousin works for a JD dealer and said removing the right rear tire and fender is the easiest way. If I get it, I may have to call on some of you.

I don't know much about the JD 5103 but I sure find it unusual when you say it will only take one remote with a loader. Some of the guys with sub compacts have added three remotes and surly they don't have as much hydraulic pump as you. I thought that once you ran your feed and return hydraulic lines the valve blocks were stackable for one, two or three remotes. It is unlikely you would be using more than one at a time so why the restriction to one only? Anyone know what I am missing?

Yea, as do I. I visited a dealer today while I was in another town and he 2nd'd the only 1 remote if a loader is present. On this model blocks are added for each remote and I think you run out of room between the chassis and the fender. It's the black frame tractors instead of green.

I believe on the newer 5003 series you can add more because the hydraulics are differently. I mentioned to him that many of the smaller compacts have 2-4 SCV's and he agreed.

Is there a PowerBeyond kit available for the 5103? If so, then you can use it to add a new valve block mounted on the fender with as many remotes as you can fit.
