has anybody made up some sort of weights to go on 3pt hitch?? Looking to make something almost flipped my tractor...I currently have the towbar on the back..heard of one guy getting a 80 pd sac of quickrete and driving a rod thru it then sitting it out to get wet...so far that sounds easy and cheap...

There are a lot of posts on home-made ballast boxes....most are cutdown 55 gallons drums fill with concrete.

80 lbs probably isn't enough...depending on your tractor's and loader's capability, you'll probably want 400 lbs or more.
As an example, my loader is good for 1200 lbs full height lift and my ballast box weighs in the neighborhood of 600-700 lbs.

If clearance is not a problem, a 3 point back blade or box blade works on my BX1500. You did not mention it, but my number 1 rule would be FEL=Loaded tires

Rear blades don't normally add enough weight (but you can hang suitcase weights on the blade.
The biggest disadvantage of using an implement is having to watch clearance on both ends of the tractor. Ballast boxes don't extend out very far (maybe 2 feet with mine...a Deere box I bought used).

Hi green, what Cub do you have, and what is its FEL capability. If we knew that we could advise you better.. Your avatar looks like one of the smaller Cubs, so maybe 400 to 500 lbs? There are a lot of ways to make up these weights, but Concrete is one of the cheapest things you can buy to get some weight.

Figured I was going to fill my tires with some RV antifreeze to start...I want to make up something that doesn't eat up my rear clearance..Although I like the box blade idea.. I'm going to get some concrete soon (getting some patios poured). Was thinking of something to make up if I have extra concrete. Does anybody have any pics of stuff they made...FEL=700lbs

Green Tea,
I made a rear ballast for my tractor using a plastic 55 gallon drum. Cut and installed a piece of rectangle tubing on the bottom and welded some 1/4" plate out to a 1" solid round bar. Welded in supporting framework for the top link and added a top lifting hoop to move it around. Then filled it 3/4 full of redi-mix. I estimate weight between 850-950 lb. You could make something similar using a 33 gallon barrel filled 1/2 to 3/4 with extra cement / concrete you may have.. For your 700 loader capacity you probably only need 350-450 lb rear ballast.

You can buy what is called a Drawbar at Tractor supply to get your project started click here. You could use a smaller barrel than my 55 gallon one or a trash can for a form or make forms with wood. (be sure to coat your wood on the inside with used motor oil for easy release) you may want to include some pipes for handle tools, I find that very useful, or a chain saw scabbard, or anything else you mind can think up. There are lots of thread on here with guys that have build ballast boxes out of lots of stuff.
