Not posted for some time... tractor has been behaving itself. Nevertheless after 13 years one of the rear tires (carlisle 26-12-12) has started to crack and needs replacing. I was going to take the whole wheel down to the store to replace it,but I'm having trouble removing the wheel. In the center of the inner rim is a cone.Does that have to be taken out to get the wheel off? IMG_0002.JPG

By "in the center" do you refer to the black axle seen in your pic? That stays when the yellow wheel rim is removed (after the 5 studs are removed). It may stick to the axle a bit. item #16 is the axle that the wheel rim bolts to.

HAD a dually truck like that where wheels got stuck and all I could hear in the waiting room was somebody pounding something with a hammer and cussing up a storm. I think he was trying to unstick my wheels. Yours should be the same.

I am most concerned about the cracks you found.. any idea what might have caused them on your 2210?

Put some penetrating oil on the joint between the axle and the rim, let it sit for a day, should come off OK after you remove the bolts of course.

If you have to beat on the rim from under the tractor, don't use a metal hammer, it will bend the rim. Us a rubber mallet or a 2X2 or 4X4.

The cracks were on side wall of the tire. I think age,and sitting in the same spot during the winter were the main factors. I did manage to replace with a new carlisle for what I thought was a good price.

jack up rear end if not already
block it up
remove the 5 stubs/bolts/nuts
spare some BP blaster, WD 40, or what ever you use on rusted up stuff.
spin the wheel 1/4 the way around and tap the rim with rubber mallet on the inside of the wheel/rim
keep spinning the wheel and tapping it. 1/4 turn at a time. till it is off.

the rim and shaft get grimmed up, rusted up. that they will stick. and also jam up together. so you just turn and hammer turn and hammer. every now and then you will get a little movement, just keep on turning and hammering.

my choice is BP blaster spray can, hit it once in morning, hit it one more time when ya get home from work, hit it again next morning and see about taking it off, if not wait till night and should come off with some work.
