reason to have trailer light receptacle

What would be the reason to have a trailer light receptacle at the rear of a tractor?

To pull a trailer at night?

possibly it was for power for something like a small air compressor,or warning lights on a trailer or something that was pulled behind it. I have one on mine for that reason.Otherwise hmm who knows.is this on one you have? or just got?. Maybe its hooked to somehting else. like a battery float charger?

It was ordered on a John Deere 5203 I am considering buying. They are an option on the current 5055D as well. Have never noticed a tractor pulling any kind of trailer on the road around here. Assume it must be a common practice in other areas.

I have one on my 5303 as well. I *think* they are standard on the 5003 series. It has kind of a wacky connector too.

I figure that if I ever go tractor camping, I can pull an RV trailer.

I use it for the work lights on my baler. I've also got magnetic lights for pulling equipment on the road at night.

They're for ag trailers. They have all the normal turn signals, stop etc. The only real difference is the pins are round and not flat.

They are there because Deere, as with all the other colors are sold all over the world. Many countries, especially in Europe, regard tractors as vehicles and they must have lights, turn signals, and tags, as must the trailers they pull. So they need a connection to the tractor.
