Hmmmmm.... Not sure what the question is? Also not sure what the damage is? Do you have any pics?

Not near tractor at the moment and a picture may be hard to show things properly. The problem seems to be that on the inside top rear of the hood there are two open "u"s that fit over either end of rod running across the rear panel of the engine
compartment allowing the hood to swing up and down. The fittings that make up the open "u"s have a further slot locking the captured rod onto the hood. It may be that with another person the latches once caught
can be pushed into the locking slots by pressure on the outside top of the hood near the "bulkhead" at the back of the instrument panel. Presently the hood is still attached to two pistons that allow the hood to rise automatically.
The hood was pushed off the mounts when a worker was trying to push a tree out of the field and a large branch caught the side of the hood.

OK. I have a 2009 Kubota M6040. Just went out and looked. #1 - you are absolutely correct - a picture isn't going to tell you squat. Your description doesn't seem to match what I can see on mine. Suggestion - modify your bio and list the year of your tractor.

I crammed my head up into the side of the engine compartment and this is what mine has. There are two open "U"'s attached to the engine bulkhead. One on each side of the bulkhead. There is a shaped piece of flatiron attached to the back underside of the hood - one on each side. These flat irons angle down and terminates inside the "U"'s. I can not see how they are held inside the "U"'s - but I would guess some kind of pin.

I would imagine that what you are looking for will be the same on all M**40series. Meaning - M5040, M6040, M7040, M8540, M9540.

You are looking for the proverbial needle in the haystack. Somebody who has taken off & reinstalled their hood - on an M series Kubota.

Suggest you contact the service department at your local Kubota dealership for clues, hints, tips, suggestions.

I've had the hood off the M7040SU, disconnect the wiring and prop strut, then it lifts up and off. Don't recall having any real trick to it.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. But as you well know, that is a pretty tight restricted area. Both for sight and fingers.

Wow!!! There's your man - Farmer495. He's going to be a good source for reinstallation.

Yea had that happen also, with the hood up. set brackets from hood onto brackets from tractor, you will see that the hood bracket has a stop that it rest against. now have one person push the bottom of the hood down from the outside this should get you past the hood stop and allow the hood to slide completely into the bracket.
