I bought a machine that had a previous pump failure that littered the system with brass. It has 14 sections and 3 feed pressure lines from two pumps. My question is can I just remove the internals from each section without breaking the whole bank apart. There is no leaks between each section.

you have entire thing off the unit already, and be dis-assembling, guessing 30 plus relief valves, and spools/levers. to clean things out... seems like ya trying to cut corners. pulling the sections apart seems like a easy job vs removing all hoses, and dealing with all the little relief valves and spools/levers. guessing 3 to 4 bolts total hold all the sections together. there be a lot of internal passage ways were gunk could still be lodged in / trapped. small little particles and longer pieces love to get stuck when ever fluid has to flow around a corner. longer straight passage ways are easy.

nice use of condoms to keep gunk from getting into the system.

Yes, you can do that.

If your return goes directly to tank, you could put a return filter in the return line and filter everything going to tank.

The main return goes through the oil cooler then to the return filter. I asked a buddy at hydraulic shop and he said if they aren't leaking between the valves don't break them as it would be like opening up a can of worms. Just pull the guts out and clean. I didn't know if there would be any check valves between the sections or just orings.. It was a pain in butt to get them out. looking for more experienced opinions as the guy i knew is kinda green.
