Hey everyone, I'm hoping someone can tell me what I did wrong. I rebuilt my shibara LEK802D Diesel engine, put it all back together and it ran fine. I worked it all day blowing snow and when I turned off it quit with a clunk, not good. I cranked it over and it sounded like I lost a cylinder. I pulled off the valve cover to find the top end dry, no oil, and one pushrods not under a rocker, and the other rockers loose. I sprayed lubricant on everything, adjusted the valves and started it up again. It ran fine but was not pumping oil to the top end.
I pulled the front cover off of the engine, put a drill motor on the oil pump, and got oil pressure to everywhere except the tube that directs oil to the top end.
Where does that tube get its oil from? Any help would be appreciated, thanks

I have seen engines that run oil pressure to cam bearings and then on to the top end.
If the cam bearing is installed wrong then no oil to the bearing or top!
I saw this on a V-8 Dodge engine that an engine shop rebuilt.
They did not "Time" the rear cam bearing and only one head got oil.
The installer had to take it out and return it. No FUN!

It would help to know what all you replaced in that rebuild. Similar to Stimw's comment, on an old John Deere MT vertical 2 cylinder engine, the freeze out plug's position used to cover the bore the camshaft rides in, in the back of the block, has to be measured from the front of the block, so as not to cover the hole going up to the top end, if tapped in too far.

I've even seen if some head gaskets are put on upside down, while they may fit, cover a port. But usually, a head gasket is marked "this side up".

Hi, I replaced both cylinder sleeves, had the crank turned, new main and rod bearings, new rings, and whatever else came with a rebuild kit.

Doubt this is the problem , but did you check that your oil pump is providing enough volume. The oil pump is an over looked item in many rebuilds. It should be inspected, and checked for gear wear, and back lash. The gear end plate usually had to be either replaced, or refinished to full flatness. Some times the relief valve spring has to be replaced, or shimmed. You usually don't notice loss of pressure or volume until engine heats up to operating temp. I'm certain it's something else in your engine, but did you inspect the oil pump?

Yes both bolts have holes in them. I put a drill motor on the oil pump, and it moves a lot of oil out through the relief valve. It also would turn off the oil light, with a new sending unit.

Doesn't 1 of the rocker bolts have a hole in it to feed the rail.??

There might be, but there is no oil supply to the lower tube hole that supplies oil to the top end.
