I bought this junk at a auction a couple of months ago. I used it about 10 minutes when it started ripping apart. Today I stayed in the shop and caught up on some projects. I cut the angle off and replaced it with 4" tubing. I had to cut the flatbar off to straighten it. Welded it up and a fresh coat of paint.

That upgrade looks really good. Where is the weakest part now? Ken Sweet

I guess it would be at the pins. It may be one of my welds though. I thought about this when I did it. I pulled a two bottom plow this summer that did not have a shear joint in it. Then I pulled one at the hunt club that had one. That was constant breaking bolts. I rebuilt it knowing that I would have to be careful.
Thanks for the compliments.

Any rebuild is a good rebuild if for no other reason than the experience for more complex jobs. You may well twist it into a pretzel but you may not if you take it easy. Good job.

that rebuild looks great, I just bought a used one also, I want to use it to pull wire or conduit.

Nice work on the subsoiler. You took something that was total junk and made something useful out of it. I have a similar light duty subsoiler with no breakaway or shearpin system. Those lightweight cheapos can work fine if you pull them with a tractor that is just big enough to pull it but accordingly the tractor will spin its tires when it hits something solid. Put them behind a real horse of a tractor though and you end up with what you started with.

Nice repair job Walkin Horse! I'd not seen a subsoiler like that before. First thought it was a one-off shop built, until I read the other posts. Since it has square tubing for the main shaft, rather than heavy bar stock like mine and others I've seen, I'd go very easy on it with your NH Workmaster 55.

Or, if your tractor has bald tires, like mine, you don't have to worry about tearing anything up.

I got to try my subsoiler out this evening. I went to some of the rootiest soil I have. I buried it to the beam in 1st gear and just over an idle. I pulled up roots big enough to cut for firewood. It's 20" from the tip to the beam. I moved it up 2" when I rebuilt it.
