Your method is also safer than a circular saw to cut the wood.

Do you have electricity? You can get good battery powered circular saws now. Get some big batteries, and find a place to recharge. Adjust the blade so it doesn't cut more than you want.
However, if it was me, I'd probably try to disassemble on the spot. Crowbar, hammer, and nail puller.
Are the posts solid in the ground? I'm not convinced you'll be able to, or want to reuse the posts.
My little Ford 1715 struggles with lift capacity. My old JD 440ic will yank them without effort, concrete and all. So, a good tractor with some power in the front loader and weight in the rear. Couple of wraps of chain, and pull.

My first thought is the same as everyone else that said to use a sawzall to cut off the nails. I've done this a lot in home remodels. You have to have a good quality blade, and even then, they never last as long as you hope they would.
But before I tried the saw, I would use a full sized crow bar to see if they will pull out. In my opinion, pulling the boards off of the posts while in the ground should be the fastest and easiest way to get it done.
If I had a problem pulling with the crow bar, I would cut the nails. And if the board pulls away from the post and the nail stays in the post, I would do whatever is fastest. Hammer in the nail, pry it out, or cut it off.
