This splitter has been for sale by the side of the road since last fall. The price is coming down but is still to high. Started at $1500 now $950. I was thinking of making an offer much much lower but don't want to buy something that won't stand up. It has a 4"X24"X2" 3000 psi Prince cylinder and a Prince valve. The beam is 6" X 6 1/2" X 1/2" It doesn't look home made. Does anyone recognise it. Is it to whimpy - I would generate about 15 ton with my 2500 psi tractor hydraulics.
All comments appreciated.

Looks kind of homemade to me. Hydraulics and beam look fine. Three point attachment looks lightweight. Given that you can buy the comparable Northern Tool Power Horse 20 ton unit new and set it up with hoses for less than $950, this doesn't look like a good deal. The Power Horse has a much heavier 3 point attachment and is a two way splitter so it would be much more productive than this unit.

The wat the three point hooks up..... it almost looks like the old Northern Tool units. Buttttt ....... the welding on the push plate and the fact that the beam sticks out so far beyond the wedge make me think it's home made. Looks well made though, if it is home-built.

Just food for thought....... i browsed at the three point splitters at Tractor Supply within the past couple weeks (made for them by Speeco). You'd need two hydraulic lines to hook it to your outlets, but they are only something like $650 brandy new.

I see what you guys mean. I guess it is probably home made. I wonder why he thinks it is worth so much. If I got it I think I would use something like a cross drawbar for a hitch and add a cradle. It is not exactly what I want but I am thinking that it might be worth $500

I agree with other posters. perhaps the guy wants his money back for what he put into it? he probably spent more then he should have.

Why not make him an offer.

He might be selling it for someone, and has no idea what a new or a used one cost.

Agreed. You can buy a new ramsplitter for significantly less. $500-$550 seems fair. If you have to beef it up or repair, the cost should be minimal. All of the expensive parts look to be in pretty good shape.

Drove by again today and stopped. This time he was home. It is homemade and used just enough to test it. He works at a fab shop that makes dump truck bodies. The valve was froze up, he had to wack it pretty hard to free it up. I asked if he would consider $500. "No way", he says, "I don't work for free". I said OK. As I was leaving he said, "I'll throw it in your truck for $750".
It will probably be there a while longer.

I think its home made also. Heck, you can buy a new Speed Co unit at TSC for $750. I made mine that looks much better than that one for $500 about 4 years ago.

Got this one for $300 last year. Works great...a little paint. Even at $600-700, heas reaching a bit. $ 400-500 more reasonable. Any specs on it. You can see the name plate on mine. Lots of power.
