recommended start of service for my JD 214 Lawn n Garden?

I'm getting eager to put the JD 214 (14hp Kohler) to work. I have no service history. It was owned by a farmer who used it to mow a horse lot. The cosmetics were sad, but mechanically solid. Goes, starts, idles smoothly and doesn't smoke.

I'm thinking: grease all fittings, check trans axle fluid level (change it?), change oil, air filter, coil, condenser andspark plug. Check all beltwhat am I missing? All advice welcome.

Looks like to got a great deal on a JD214 Lawn Tractor. It appears you have started in the right direction by changing the oil, oil filter, air filter. I wouldn't change the coil, condenser ...unless it needs changing.. New s. plug is necessary. Buy you a can of good car wax/[polish and go to work on the exterior parts. Run some Seafoam in the gas to clean out all the carbon in the carburetor and engine. Good luck with the machine.

BTW. I was born in Missouri. Went to Rogersville High School. Spent 6 years in US Navy, and came back to Springfield. Built a home North of McDaniel Lake... later moved To Table Rock lake area.

Thanks for the reply. I was born in NE Missouri (Hannibal Area) Mizzou Grad, then business before a ministry career. Retired (almost) to Springfield where youngest daughters and grandchildren live. Again, thanks...

Well, with some good luck and advice, the JD 214 is put together and got her first work out today. Paid $ 300 for her, spent another $200 on maintenance, cosmetics (a replacement hood/used) and paint, a little welding on the deck and a new pto/deck drive belt. I probably rushed the first yard mowing by a week, but what the heck. Anyway, she performed great for a 30 year old lady.
