Reconditioned Tools

Has anyone every bought any factory reconditioned tools? I got this website from another forum reconditionedsales.com and they sell factory reconditioned Hitachi power tools. I have a Hitachi 18 volt cordless drill, and really like it. This website is the authorized Hitachi reconditioning sales site, and they say you get the new warranty with the tool, but you save over 50%. Looks like a great deal...or is it?

Rich, I don't think all their tools carry a 50% discount, but the prices are very good. I sure think I'd give them a try if I needed something. I like some of their brad nailers.

I have a few DeWalt reconditioned tools that have been well used by myself. No complaints on my behalf.

The price was right! The tool was beyond my normal purchase ability and I'm happy.

Last fall i came home with a freehand 14 in. saw for steel or masonry for 260 dollars. Normal price was 560 dollars. I'm using it to cut granite and slate rock.

I have purchased a number of factory reconditioned tools and have had success with all of them. Some look like they'd never been used, others only the slightest signs of use. I wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

I've bought some sears tools re-con.. and been fine with them.. did have a problem with some B&D stuff though.

I have bought several recon tools. Mostly with good success, and usually they are tools I don't plan to use regularly. I have learned to avoid B&D-Dewalt because the have had a policy in the past, of discontinuing parts for their tools once a type number of a particular model is 10 years out of production. This means if you need even very basic parts like switches and brushes, They say sorry!, then you waste a lot of time hunting for someone who may have it sitting on their shelf. I have several of their tools I can no longer use that are in good condition. If I buy a quality tool, I expect to be able to use it for more than 10 years. In comparison, for example, I was able to call Milwaukee and order a switch for a 40 year old tool, no problem. While it it is perhaps a lot to ask for parts after 40 years, it does show a real commitment to their customers.

I've bought reconditioned from DeWalt and Sears all have been worth the price. Most of them usually come with the same warranty as new.

I've bought several recon B&D corded and cordless tools, and have never had a problem with any of them. I have a 12 volt cordless drill that is approaching 8 years of use, recently purchased an 18 volt cordless drill. Other purchases are a circular saw, jigsaw, router, hedge trimmer, electric pressure washer, corded drill, maybe some others that I have forgotten. I have a B&D outlet store that I visit about 4-6 times a year, mainly just to browse.

I bought a reconditioned Hitachi hammer drill about 10-12 years ago. It was an excellent tool until I ruined the switch the second time. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. However, I'd shop the web carefully to compare the price with discounted new ones.

I bought a reconditioned Chicago Pneumatic CP745 1/2" drive air gun about 30 years ago. Back then I couldn't afford a new gun. Its still in use today with no problem. In fact it out performed a new gun I bought at NAPA last year. Should have saved my money. Can't speak for anything recent.
