I use a Max II for hauling deer and firewood out of my swamps. I cannot be without it. My only problem aside from adjusting all those drive chains occasionally is the Briggs engine does not idle well.

Is that one of those amphibious 6 wheel vehicles? How bad do those tear up the ground? They steer like a skid steer, right?

The key word in the top post is "swamps". The Max and ARGO Amphibious ATVs are in their element in swamps, bogs, wetlands and bottom-less mud or deep stream crossings. I had an ARGO 8x8 for several years, and it was also great in deep powder snow with 18" snow tracks.

It was much less ideal as a dry-land ATV however. Not that it would not go many or even most places, but was not a pleasent ride with no suspention (just very low tire pressure, like 2 PSI) and the fairly crude skid steer system using the brakes on one side or the other.

We sold the ARGO for a Polaris Ranger 6x6 and find this vehicle to be much better for our needs as swamps and wetlands are not a big factor here in the central Rockies. If wetlands and bogs or snow cat operations are at the top of your requirements, then these AATVs are the best way to go. They also carry 2 to 6 people and/or gear, but the new side-by-side Recreational Utility Vehicles can do the same.

Check out www.Route6x6.com for a lot of info on both old and curent AATVs (there is a fair amount of BS you have to sift through however).

Having recently aquired 2 MAX units at work, we in the fleet division have gotten intimately familiar with the innards of the MAX. Even went to the factory, as it is here in Buffalo. 21 grease fittings. 21! And about 129 other things that need periodic tweeking and twisting to make sure they are perfect. Granted, we're picky.

I agree about the ride. Way to rough for my taste on hard ground. I managed to high center one on a snow pile. Not much ground clearance on the belly.

Ours idle fine, plenty of power. Deep powder snow bogs them down some, but they keep going OK. One bent wheel is all we've replaced so far (so good).
