Red Dye Diesel Fuel

Not sure if this has been brought up before. A local station is now selling red dye diesel fuel for off-road vehicles. Its # 2 diesel . The red dye is added so it cannot be used on-road. Its exclusive of federal taxes. Its quite a savings depending on the quanity you use. Here in CA, I'm paying $2.68 gal. It would be about .40 less. Any users out there??

Since you are in California it's also the new ULSD fuel.

Dyed or off-road fuel is quite common in most parts of the country. The only difference between it and what you would nornally buy for on-road fuel is the dye. Availability is not usually at regular filling stations but at the local Ag or fuel distributor.

This topic has been discussed dozens of times already.

Yup, the dyed diesel is the same stuff. Sometimes, it might be a higher sulfer rating...... but usually the same. Not sure about the new fuel for the 2007's on road.

You usually find it in areas w/ lots of Ag. Sometimes smaller farms prefer going to them then having fuel delivered.

I live in Wi. and buy it in Iola all the time, no difference except for the dye..

Thats what i use in my kubota. The last time i bought it i think it was 2.06 a gallon.

I should have made it clear, if I could find it in the Milwaukee area I would buy it in a heart beat (or two

I have saved between 35 cents up to as much as 115 cents buy purchasing off-road diesel instead of gas station on-road diesel. The fuel depots selling the off-road seem to be more in touch with the daily fluctuations in fuel price.

A free barrel, an 11$ HF rotary hand pump, and I am saving money on my first barrel.

Red dye diesel is the same diesel as the on road pump. In some areas of the country it may be low sulphur not ULSD. But it works fine in a tractor. Make sure the station sells enough of the stuff to keep it fresh.
