I have noticed that sometimes tractors come from Japan with red trans fluid. Is this ok ? Is anyone familiar with this? Do certain models require something different from the jd 303 fluid? Please help.

The colour of new oils is very independant to thier quality. If properly investigated you may find the Marketing Component of oil refiners does market research to determine the colour of oil pleasing to consummers.

Not all powershift models come with red fluid. What type of ATF is this? What type of fluid does Yanmar recommend for powershift models?

I have asked this same question before, with no results. Some models have a lable saying to use TF300 and others say TF500. There has to be a difference. BUT most of the aftermarket fluids list multiple grading. I do know that I put a universal fluid with JD303 rating in a Hinomoto and when it is cool not cold it squeels like a pig until it gets warm and when cold it wouldn't move until it got warm. With it's original fluid it didn't do it.

Reed,
I think the TF is tranny fluid. the 300 and 500 are different weights, like mercon and dextron fluid are.
If your machine squeals, try a lighter weight fluid.
Correct me if im wrong
This is my 2 cents worth. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Reed, I asked this same question to a Yanmar mechanic in Japan and he replied that the 20 series and all the F series use TF500 and the other models use TF300. Basically if it has wet brakes and is a Yanmar it takes TF500. They say that the TF300 specs out as JD303, and the TF500 specs out to JD20A. Most of the time when you buy a universal hy-trans it says it meets specs for both JD standards, so go figure.

That answers the question but it doesn't does it. I have noticed the dual rating, but it is confusing. Why have two ratings if one will do? Can anyone explain the difference between the two JD ratings?

Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments but I'm still not sure what this red stuff is. If it is ATF, what type? And what is the correct fluid for powershift models? The last tractor I received with the red fluid was a YM2310. I normally replace the fluid with a JD303 equivelant universal hy-trans and have never had a problem but I would like to know if this is the wrong fluid. So, if someone has an owners manual to an American model, such as a YM226, YM276, or YM336 , and wouldn't mind posting what the Yanmar recommendations are, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again,

Mike
