I wonder if that can be modified to lift both the front and rear so the tires can be rotated?:D

yup actualy did that later in the day with a different car, had both the front and rear up on sawhorses. now of course neither of these cars were much good, just taking a few parts off that i wanted to save before we junked them, but i have been known to do simular things to work on vehichles, my toyota pickup was up on sawhorses a couple times.

I use my forklift for rotating tires and oil changes. It is also very handy to change lawnmower blades.

About 25 years ago my brother, a friend, & I had two '66 & one '67 Dodge Chargers. One of the 66's was parts for the other two. When we stripped the parts car I borrowed the F-750 tilt-bed & a 7000lb fork truck with boom, & drove to the friend's (where the cars were). I chained the lift boom to the tail panel of the car & we removed the rear & fuel tank standing up, then set the hulk on the tilt-body & hauled it to the scrap yard. The neighbors thought we were nuts though, having a car standing on it's nose beside the road! Then, a while later, after getting the '67 bolted together except for exhaust, I again borrowed the tilt-body & ran the car up to the shop. There, we ran both 7Klb fork trucks under the front & rear bumpers, lifted the car up & set it on a pair of horses (made from 4" channel iron, about 4' tall). That sure did make installing the exhaust (stock duals) easy! Shortly there after my father sold his interest in that business & since then all our work on cars was done outdoors, on ramps & jack stands, until 2 years ago when we moved (& now have a 1200+ sq ft garage). :D

Another simple way to get to the underside of the front of a car is to run some sturdy ramps level off a slight embankment about eight feet straight out sitting on top of a cuople of surdy pillars. The ramps stay level and the land gently drops off leaving two or so feet of access space under the car. Guy on Goodhouse Road in Litchfield has this set up right next to the road. Might not be as nice as the crane but might be easier on the car.
