Refitting huge rear wheel

Good morning Powerpace: ...a warm WELCOME ABOARD to you. Actually you are right about the trailer suggestion. I wonder if its not too late to pry bar it on to the trailer, then use the trailer as a dump truck sort of thing to wiggle into position then somehow standing the trailer up, till the tire is in place, rope the tire to the tractor while getting the trailer outta there and . . . er,..ah.. ??

Sleep Deprivation is obvious here! Perhaps I should hit the sack before I make any more suggestions, .....its late!!

Good luck lads,
. . tug

PS: Alan, while I'm still not thinkin straight,....kebo had a great idea to which I'll add: slip down to the local pub and announce a free barby at your place,...get a few to lend a hand when they first arrive,...then barby up some dogs and burgers (or steaks), lots of beer on ice and who knows....? Geeze Al, you might even enjoy the party? Just keep the beer outta sight till the tire is on and torqued down!!

Right Ho Guys - all done!

The dog was lying close by licking his nuts when I was writing previously and he must have heard me mention the 3 Pt linkage jib. Next thing I know he growls something that sounds like "&#^@" meaning just stop thinking and get on with it. He was right.

I dragged the jib out, unbolted the swinging frame and hoisted it onto the cab roof, then chained it down to the chassis on the "good tyre" side. Passing a sling through the wheel enabled it to be lifted to a 45 degree position. Then by chocking it I replaced the sling with a chain so adjustment made it possible to raise it some more. The tricky bit was supporting the wheel to allow the chain to be removed after it was roughly in position on the hub. That done, a couple of shoves with the crowbar engaged it enough to get one bolt in and the rest was easy.

For interest, I'm going to bolt a permanent steel beam with an internal slider and rings at each end laterally across the top of the cab, so a sling around the wheel (not through it) will make this job easy in future.

The pictures attached are not real good but will show how it was done. The final shot with the wheel back on includes the dog in "thinking" mode. The moral of the story is that there is always a doggone way to fix a problem. No animals or sub-humans were harmed during the fixing of this stuff-up!

Cheers from OZ

Yeah! the pub is actually about 50 Km away and as for the Barbie (sorry - that's the blond, I mean Barby) - you remind me of the advice about turning over the hull of the boat under construction. The first point is only to use friends who may become ex-friends and the second is to get the job done before opening the beer.

Seriously- thanks to all for your help

G'day Alan I can see where you're coming from with the rail idea but i don't think i would make it a permanent fixture looking at your surrounds it would be a pain in the a@#e around the bush also be careful those old cabs aren't that strong maybe you might be better off making a o/head gantry that you can park under if you need a "skyhook" again. Good to see it going again :)

Alan,....I like Banjodunn's idea of a gantry you can park under when needed. But I'm happy that your dog was finally some help to you and between the two of you, you actually came up with a workable idea! Proud of ya mate!!

Although,...being upside-down to me,....it should have fallen into place. How do you not fall off the ground down there, compared to up here in Canada? Ha,ha!

Nice to see that good ole Ozzie sense of humour also! G'dye mate.

Bloody ignorant Northern hemisphere types! Youse should know that we walk upside down on our hands - that way there is less chance of damaging your head when falling down drunk. In Queensland, the locals all have flat heads and Tasmanians have two but they can fool you, so you have to look carefully for the scar where the second head was removed

Amazing Alan,......just amazing how you did that!! I mean even your dog looks normal laying there,...how did you train him to do that?

But wait,.. Oh yeah, I bet I just figured out your secret,.......you turned the camera upside down to take those photos,.....right? Fantastic!! Brilliant!!!

Yeah,...don't take us Northern Hemisphere types long to work out those more difficult equasions:>(down-side-up)+[upside down]+dog + nuts x 2= "licked" + tractor+tyre+ overhead bars +chains=ON x 1 upsidedown^camera+1 Ozzie= Great Photos +1 great success story!!!! + numerous pads and pencils to work it out, but I "think" I got it!! So,..like,..er,..ah,..I mean, da youze "really" walk on yer hands? Oh yeah then,....how do ya hold the camera?

Nice to meecha and "pleasure" doin business with ya mate,...glad it all worked out. {Glad no animals or people injured in this endeavor!} Take care!!
