In order to be able to register a tractor in the UK you need a EU Conformity Certificate. Since the company I bought the tractor off three years ago has gone bust how do I go about getting this certificate?

Thanks
Rob.

Under what name is the tractor branded? This is important, because there are many more "branded" names worldwide - than there are actual Chinese tractor manufacturers. Siromer for example, is actually a Jinma that's been branded with Siromer decals. If you can find out what other tractors from the same Chinese manufacturer are still selling in the UK, you can probably use a certificate from a dealer that sells that "brand"

I guess pretty soon, they will be registering tractors over here and putting sniffers into our Exhaust pipes?

When I lived in Scotland, I even had to register my Kawasaki ATV, pay road tax, and mount a number plate. And that was over 20 years ago. That said, I seem to recall the ATV was registered as an agricultural vehicle - just like the tractor in question.

In France tractors are freely allowed on the roads if the design answers a number of specifications, hence the need for a certificate. They must apply the highway code : riding lights, brake lights, mirrors, blinkers, number plate at the back, metal plate showing the main specs and as slow unpredictable vehicles they have to show an orange strobe light. Light trailers show the same number as the tractor and, in most cases, do not require a specific driving licence.

Since July 2010, a EU Conformity Certificate is now needed to road register any vehicle in any EU country (tractor / motorcycle / excavator / car / lorry etc). The certificate is issued with the vehicle when new, and is specific to the individual vehicle - it carries the identification marks, date of manufacture and even the name of the person who completed the certificate.

To the best of my knowledge, it is not easy to get a replacement certificate - instead the vehicle would need to go through homologation and have a detailed engineers report stating that it meets EU type 1 approval. In Spain this can cost several thousand euros for machinery...

If you were paying road tax, it was not classed as an agricultural vehicle....

All agricultural vehicles must show a valid road tax disc - but there is no charge for them. :thumbsup:

Well like I said, it was >20 years ago. The regulations may have since changed - OR - more likely - my memory just isn't what it used to be. I know the Kawasaki had to wear a number plate, but not I'm not actually sure it was subject to road tax. I do recall the tax disc was required to be displayed on motor vehicle windscreens, but I don't recall a tax disc for the ATV. Just the number plate.

One other point though; I don't recall the EU being established yet when I lived in Germany/Italy/Scotland. We still had to show passports at national boundaries back then.

:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Still the same - either passports or national id cards... :laughing:

But the UK was the last one to hold out against requiring type 1 approval for vehicles - but caved in to peer pressure from the rest of europe. Disfunctional though it may be, the EU is very much established... although for how much longer is a big question atm :confused2:
