Hello,

I have emailed the AKC my question to no avail so I figured I would ask the TBN'ers and I bet someone will have an answer.

I am getting ready to breed my English Bulldog. She is NKC registered. The sire I want to breed her with is AKC registered. My question is this, Will the litter be allowed to be registered as AKC and NKC ???

I realize that breeding Bulldogs is no easy task with the C-section, water puppies, 2 hour feedings, etc..but I have done extensive research on the subject and the wife and I are ready to tackle this. It is going to be alot of work but joyous at the same time.. I can't wait !!!

If you really want an answer, you really need to call on the phone. Email is easier, but I've found too many people either ignore it or are overwhelmed by it to respond properly.

Don't think that will work. To be AKC registered pups both parents would both have to be AKC registered sire and dam.

I think that ridgerunner is correct that both must be AKC registered to register the litter with the AKC. Did you check out the AKC on-line registration site for information. Is it possible to re-register your ***** with the AKC? I do not know anything about the NKC's policies.

Both Sire and Dam must be AKC registered in order to register the puppies with AKC. AKC is a closed registry, so the only dogs that can be registered are puppies of a pair AKC parents. There's no way legal way around it. The original poster will not be able to register his puppies with the AKC.

I talked to my vet today and 2 pet store owners about this and they all said the same thing. That I should just register them as NKC and forget about AKC. It seems this is the trend because AKC are becoming impossible to deal with and are losing members by the boatlaod because of this. Also that people that are going to plop down 2 grand for a dog usually already know this and NKC will be the biggest within a few years anyway. SO, I'm not going to worry about it now. Thanks for the suggestions/info though.

Randy41,
I am breeding pure breed English Bulldogs,( a fawn piebald to a brindle white) NOT mutts that no one wants. I already have 6 people that want my pups, without even advertising and I know she will not have that big of a litter. That is why I only took down payments for 4 of them and my word for others if she has them. These pups go for $2,000 a piece ( to very good homes only) And that is cheap. The pet stores want $2,500 for them.
If you ever see a homeless English Bulldog please call me, I will be there that day !!!

Nothing wrong with going to a pound and getting a dog , I have 2 adopted dogs ( mixed breeds) also I raise purebred German Shepherds and sell the pups and will continue to do so. I have 5 adult German Shepherds and have another German Shepherd on the way that I have purchased from out of state. To say everyone or no one should not be breeding dogs because there is plenty of homeless ones, well I respectably disagree.

Ridgerunner,

I agree completely... I also have 2 other "Farm" dogs that I got from the pound. Both look to be half lab and half german sheppard. Both are over 100 lbs. They are by far the best 2 watch dogs I have ever had. They walk everywhere with my 2 little girls. I guess they are on bear watch. I had a bear in my front field in front of my house one day and the girls were out ( I was there also, and got the gun just in case.) I thought those dogs were going to rip it to pieces... The bear high tailed it out of there and it was still 200 yards away !! I love my mixed breeds. They are really the land owners, I just borrow it from them.

I know so little about animal registrations that, until this year, I didn't know anything existed except the AKC. When we decided to look for a Chihuahua, I wasted a lot of time on the Internet with "rescue" groups, visited all the animal shelters in our area, shopped the Internet, etc. We really didn't care whether the dog was a purebred or not since we had no intention of doing any breeding. However, we were unable to find one anywhere and finally went to a Pet Exhibition and bought a Chihuahua pup from an Arkansas Kennel (puppy mill, I guess). They said she was purebred and they'd give us the necessary papers and forms to register her. I assumed (always a mistake, huh?) they were talking about AKC, but found it's for APRI (America's Pet Registry, Inc.) I'd never heard of APRI, and until this thread, I'd never heard of NKC.

Fortunately, that made no difference to us and we did not bother to register her with APRI; just with the City and vet.:) And the little scamp will be a year old tomorrow.:)
