Regulator on yanmar 1700

I've purchased a Yanmar YM1700 and shortly after purchasing the charge light started staying on. I replaced the battery and had the alternator checked out which checked fine. So now I assume its the regulator that is bad. I've taken it to the local parts store and they can't seem to find any numbers to match it up. Does anyone know what auto regulator can be substituted? I've heard a Chrysler but don't have a part number.

There is a thread on the Yanmar section about this, but I believe one of the regulars there said that the 72 Datsun regulator would work. Direct plug in, but the color coded wires won't match up. I believe it was a very recent post, check them out.
