Hi Folks,
Last year I installed a couple of double 55 watt flood lights on my ROPS and had to install a relay with the help of my good friends here and now I just finished installing a new cab. I have taken the lights off of the ROPS and installed them on the front of the cab. After I hooked them back up only one of them will work. There is juice going to the one not working and it is properly grounded (same as before) I changed the guts over from another I have on the back of the tractor - still the same thing. It also shows my ground wire attached to the bracket as hot even with the changeover.

Anyone have any ideas ?? Please.

Grab some jumper cables for trouble shooting. hook to battery.. test lamp.. jumper around relay.. check ground.. etc.

If the ground wire is HOT, it ain't grounded. By HOT, I assume you mean showing voltage on a volt meter. Check it again. Sounds like the ground wire is not making a connection at the ground end, not the lamp end. Is is probably HOT because it is getting voltage thru the lamp with no where to go. If it is not making ground, it will show voltage on both sides of the lamp. Take a piece of wire, touch it to that lamp ground and touch the other end to the tractor frame or other ground.

Are these lights grounded to the frame at the lights, or do they have a ground wire that goes back to some common ground point?

Can you post pics?

Yep, it sure sounds like there is an open ground on the nonfunctioning lamp.

Thanks Guys - I got it. I did what Bill said and took a separate wire and grounded it to another part of the tractor and it worked. So I replaced the wire that grounds to the bracket pivot bolt and still nothing . I grabbed the fixture and rotated it back and forth and PRESTO it worked. Although the bracket is bolted to the cab it didn't automatically ground, there appeared to be a coat of paint on the cab that kept it from grounding. We learn something new every day, as minor as it may sound.
I really appreciate the help - once again - THANK YOU !

Kevin
