When I was very young we used to get the Grit Magazine. It was usually printed like a newspaper. It has been around 37 years since I have read one and really did not know it was still published.

My wife recently subscribed to Grit and we have received two issues. I am very impressed with this magazine and the "living the country life" type of articles. I receive several magazines of this type and most articles on trailers, tractors or farm equipment seem to have had little research done before they are written. Grit seems to do their homework...so far.

The Nov-Dec issue had a great article on trailers, "Hooking up with the Right Trailer" and you can read this on the web site.

The current issue has a good section on CUT tractors, from HP, PTO, drawbar and transmissions. Great information for someone new or with not alot of experience.

I have seen several threads on TBN asking for good magazines on tractors and living the country life. I think this is a good one and want to share it with you guys ans gals.

Check it out.

WOW! I thought that magazine/paper had gone under. That's the only paper/magazine I ever rememeber my grandmother reading when I was a kid. I remember reading them during the summer when I stayed with my grandmother.
Likewise it's been at least 30 years since I've seen one.

Same here, I thought they were long gone. I recall seeing their ads in the back of the comic books we'd read. You know, those seeming to claim (at least to a young mind) that selling Grit would make you independently wealthy by 10 or 11. :D

On their website is an article titled 'Pets or meat', a very good read for sure. When I slaughtered my straight run of Rocks it gave my kids a whole new perspective on the food chain. :D After we were done my wife asked if we'd like fryed chicken. My oldest, who helped thru the entire affair, just gave her a very ill look and walked off. It was some time before he could eat chicken again. :D I'm not sure what he expected but it didn't coincide w/ the events of that day. I think it was a real eye opener that something had to die for him to live.

Grit, yeah, used to sell them, for a short while,,they gave you a grit bag to hold the papers in,real neat,,my buddie sold them for several years I think,,walking, for miles, down dirt roads,,they paid you what they said, but if neighbors are 1/4 to 1/2 mile apart and you are on foot,or bike,,think they was an older guy who had a car,who was big time,,think thats who I spun off of for one summer only,,,yeah,ex grit salesman here, the good ole days,,can you imagine a 12-14 year old boy now walking spending all sat or sunday making 1-2 dollars??well,we was bored,,but we was in shape!!,,thingy

Wow, never knew anyone who actually sold Grit! I'm impressed....really! We only dreamed about it and being rich by 10 or 11. We almost got into the mouse trap business selling Victor traps door to door...but our mom found out about that before we could send in the $$$. :D The ad section in the comics was such fertile ground for a young imagination! So many get rich schemes so little time (and money). In the end we went the easy route and did yard work, took in hay, sold vegs door to door or anything else we could do to turn a $1 (which usually involved tremendous outputs of effort for little pay...the perfect kid job). Sadly most of our finnacial empire wound up in the hands of Whiteway, the local soda fountain and the various makers of chewing tobacco. :)
