I had a friend that did traveling tool sales. He told me he got half of the gross. He did it for a couple of years in the early 80’s, until he quit drinking and settled down with a regular job.

I remember going to those traveling "tool auctions" too - back in the late 70's. I don't remember exactly how they did it as an auction, because there was always plenty of their stuff to buy. I still have some of it in my tool box - a set of ratcheting box wrenches comes to mind. Also a set of snap ring pliers. IIRC, they used to set up in the school cafeteria - probably a fund raiser for the school. It was always packed!!

Bought quite a few tools from Cummins and had good luck. My bench grinder is over 20 years old and still works great. Dead blow hammer, large farm wrench set, and various hand tools like axle seal puller. Before northern and harbor freight they were the only option in rural area besides the tool truck $$ for handyman home use.

Same here on the bench grinders,- at least 20 years, 1 from Homier- 1 from Cummins

bought a (special) priced Coleman 2400 psi gas powered pressure washer for $199 still working after 14 years also the 1st thing i bought from them a 3/4 drive socket set. no broken sockets even standing on a 6 foot cheater bar
bought both the (large) Cummins metric and standard wrench sets hanging in there to.

now that I think about it ... Had better overall luck with the travelling salesman tools than HF tools.

Traveling tool sales title gives the good ones a bad name. We have two here, Snap-On and Cromwell. They are both high quality tools and coveted. I have bought several refurbished Snap-On air tools that are awesome. Exceed any of my uses. When I die they'll still be in my toolbox in good working condition.

I've never been in a Harbor Freight store. Have no desire. Would drive right past one without hesitation. I don't even buy parts store brand tools, even though they are guaranteed for life.

If you have ever held a high quality combination wrench in your hand you understand the cost difference.

Cheap tools, cheap results.
