Is a Float Detent valve simply a Double Acting valve with a float position ... similar to the up/down valve on loader controls?

Assuming they are the same cost, would it make sense to get all Float Detent valves for my rear remotes?

Besides a loader, what would be some applications for a Float Detent valve as a rear remote?

I appreciate your help. Thank you.

Anyone have an answer/recommendation on this one?

I can't see any application where the float-detent position would be a hindrance, except maybe if you accidentally got it into the float postion when you didn't want to. But, then, you could just take it out of float and you'd be fine. Personally, for the same price, I think it's a "wash." I see no advantage or disadvantage without a specific application.

Yes a float detent spool is just a double action one with a float detent position. Good for the lift valve on a loader. I am not sure what you would want one on a remote for, but should be ok.

I think it would come in handy if you wanted to hook up a top link hydraulic cylinder for sure, other option would be a hydraulic side link lift cylinder with float to help level using a box blade? though some one else may know a reason to NOT have it, I would think that with it would be better if the cost was the same.

Wehre you finding the valves? I've been looking and costs for float valves are usually 20 more each section.

Spiker,

The ones I found were slightly more as well. However, the dealer said he would charge the same as double acting as part of a new tractor purchase. For 3 remotes, it's a savings of around $120-$150.

A float would (is) helpful when using something like a dump trailer where the lift cylinders do not have a power down. Putting the valve into float is the better way to lower the dump bed. On our JD ProGators at work the rear remote for cylinders has a float, and we use it when lowering the dump cylinder on the material collection sweeper.
