I've seen many many videos of how to remove and reattach a loader and most say to do it on flat, level ground. Not everyone has that available. I have a gravel driveway which is firm but I don't have a convenient place that is perfectly flat or level if I want to take the loader off. Question is, how critical is it that the spot be perfectly flat and level?

Removing the loader is possible on uneven ground,( like extreme offroad) albeit it makes the job harder.

However I think you'll have a hard time attaching it because you'll have only one side that goes in and the other side won't, with no possibility to lower or raise the loader. I.e. the left side is higher than the right

It's like a 3ph implement, the more level it is and the better you place the tractor, the easier hooking up an implement is.

While it isn't CRITICAL to be on perfectly flat terrain, the closer it is to being level the better.

If you don't have a large enough piece that is flat, try to place it so that the loader is flat on a left and right plane (horizontal in terms of width) so that the tractor is leveled side to side yet if the rear is higher or lower than the front, the lengthwise plane isn't "all" that important.

Hope this helps.

Just heck of lot harder to line up which means Armstrong lifting or pry bar etc. etc.
"perfectly flat" not needed... there no where on your land you can't smooth spot.
If you plan on leaving your loader off for period time you may want to set on boards etc...loader may settle.

The flatter the better. I too have very little "flat ground" around here in Branson, Mo.

We are not saying you can't get the loader put back on, but it will just be a PITA. Part of getting it back on is skill on your part in getting it lined up and how well you can understand and manipulate the joystick on the loader. The more skilled you are at that manipulation and observing the results the faster you will get the dang thing back on. Some people are "all thumbs" and some people are good at finessing things to achieve the goal.

I just put 2 x 4's (shims) under necessary points of the loader to hold it somewhat straight with the tractor when I take it off. I don't care if the ground is flat, just that the loader stays somewhat straight with the tractor so it is easier to line up too when reinstalling.

Use the tractor to make a flat spot.

In my (very) limited experience, flat is more important than level, and stable is more important than both. You need to get the tractor back to the same position relative to the loader, in as much as possible.

I've only had the loader off once. I've not had a good reason to remove it.

Thanks for the insight everyone. I'm pretty good with the loader controls and I thought about using blocks to shim it. They obviously make it look easy on 'tube when they do it on a smooth flat poured concrete slab but I'm sure that's not how it goes 90% of the time.

THIS ^^^^

its just as easy to detach on a slope... provided the loader and tractor are on the same slope.

think about it like this... when a cutting board is on the counter top, its flat and level. something is jammed under the cutting board, its still flat, but not level. as long as the tractor and attachment (loader or other wise) are both on the same cutting board it should be simple.

Rear tires should be parallel to bottom of loader. As someone said, use it he loader to fill in either the spot your rear tires go or where the bucket goes to makevthem parallel. Having something solid in front of the loader will stop it from being pushed off of the level spot when re attaching. Block under the stands as they tend ti sink, dig in, get pushed out of place when detaching and re attaching.
