Kubota BX1500
Hi, I am brand new to this forum and pretty new to tractors. I bought my Kubota BX1500 last summer and it's got about 15 hours on it. I just installed a Woods RBC60 rear blade for snow removal, and I would like to remove the tractor's MMM. I don't seem to have any info on how to do this in the owner's manual, and I came up empty with Internet searches. I've looked it over pretty closely and I'm darned if I can see an easy way to get it off. Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks,

Lewis

I believe the instructions are in the MMM manual
From memory

this is best done on a hard (i.e. concrete) floor with a fair bit of clearance on either side.

1) raise the MMM
2) set the wheels so they are as high as they go, and are at right angles to the tractor wheels. (I think there is only one set of holes at 90 degrees)
3) lower the MMM and shut off tractor
4) move the lever at the front of the tractor so it no longer holds the mower (there is a release for the lever). remove the lever
5) pull the release clips on the lift arms so they let go of the MMM (one on each side)
6) start the tractor. raise the MMM (which shouldn't lift the mower) and turn the height knob to 'top'. shut off tractor
7) pull the collar back on the PTO shaft where it connects to the tractor and wiggle the PTO off the spline.
8) slide the mower out from under the tractor.

I use a bungee cord to hold the PTO shaft to the mower so it doesn't flap around.
assuming I didn't forget anything that should be it.

you may have to wiggle things a bit to remove them.

good luck

Pull the pins on the wheels first and turn them sideways and re pin the wheels in this position. The deck needs to be in the up position for this. Then, in the front of the tractor you will find a handle that needs to be pulled down. You will have to first release the lock on the opposite side of the handle by pulling it outward and turning it to lock it in the unlocked position. Make sure that you lower the deck before releasing this lever. Once the lever is released, you will need to take the lever mechanism off. It should be self evident how to do this. Then, the next thing to do is to release the rear pins. There is one on each side. Pull the handle out and rotate into the locked position. The final thing to do is to remove the drive shaft. To do this, you will need to reach under the tractor and pull back the locking collar. The pull the drive shaft off the splined shaft. Roll the mower deck out from under the tractor and you are done. I suggest that you clean the deck and release the tension on the drive belt. The mower axle wheel stands are great for storing the deck in a upright position. I am surprised that you don't have a manual for the mower deck. One comes with every new deck that is sold. Don't forget to raise and lock the mower deck mechanism in its upright position for the time that the MMM is off the tractor.

Here is a link to the 54" MMM deck parts diagrams that might help you to identify the different parts that I refer to in my explanation. I don't have the link for the 48" deck, but they are all similiar.... http://www.streamload.com/plowboy/Books/RCK54_22BX.pdf

In addition to the advice above, I have found that without a loader on my BX, that driving the front wheels up on something about 4" high, like some wood or bricks, makes pulling the mower out SO MUCH EASIER. I do that all the time now...

First you disconnect it. Then you pull it out. I do mine on gravel (lust for concrete) and with the extra space I get from the front end being up a bit, it is not hard at all.

Maybe not necessary, but try it you will like it. I suppose if you have a loader though, all you need to do is use the loader to lift the front end a bit...

And now that you have it off and don't seem to have a manual:
You should have been greasing 5 or 6 zerk fittings on the mower and 2 on the pto drive shaft.
Release the tension on the drive belt - do a search on this, there have been numerous posts on hwo to do it.
When you clean under your deck, make sure you wear a good pair of work gloves - there have been posts on how badly (and for a long time) one can get infected from a seemingly minor scrape.
Check the lube level in the mower gearbox.
I'm sure I've forgotten something, someone else may help!

If you have the 48" deck on your 1500 then you cannot turn the wheels sideways, you probably already noticed that though. That thing is so easy to get it disconnected that once you know how, you'll see what a simple job it is and what good engineering was put into it.

Well a picture is worth a thousand words, so a video must be worth at least a million. Here is a video done by one of our esteemed colleagues (Brinet) to show how to put a MMM on so if you reverse the steps, it should help you take it off. The file is about 9 Meg, so hopefully you have broadband or you may not want to try and use this. It isn't on the BX1500, but it should still apply I suspect.

Good luck and Happy Holidays to All.

Thank you very much indeed to all of you who replied to my questionjavascript:void(0)
/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. I followed the instructions and had no problems getting the MMM off the tractor. Everything was smooth and I was impressed with the design of the system. I also ordered the mower stands from Larry, at moweraxle.com. They look like a great way to store the mower deck and make it simple to clean and service it. Also, I asked my dealer why I didn't get the manual and they will give me a spare copy. Thanks again,

Lovettsville Lou

While it is on its side, remove the blades and grease all the fittings. Grease the spindles until you see grease coming out the bottom. Most of these have never been properly greased coming out of the factory.
