In the last couple of years I've had several requests by PM to tell someone where the post is located about removing and installing the 16LA loader. While I don't mind telling them about the post, it's probably better that I make this post with an easily searchable name so it can be used to find the original post. It's kinda like a modern high-tech game of leap frog. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If I had used an easily searchable phrase in the beginning, it would have been better, but hindsight is 20-20. The title of the original post was "Detaching / Attaching the 16LA Loader." While there is nothing grammatically wrong with that title, even I can't remember it. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

So to get to the old post, just use the link below. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

BTW: This is not the only way to remove and install the 16LA. It's just the way shown in the Owner's Manual. Several other people use a modified technique and it works just fine. Recently I used a slightly different technique when I had only my quick attach plate and no bucket on the loader. As you become familiar with the technique and the loader, you can get creative, but I've found the method shown in the Owner's Manual is pretty darn reliable. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

16LA Removal

I just removed mine a couple of weeks ago for the first time and I've owned it for almost 3 years. At first I was a little apprehensive, but it's not nearly as hard as it sounds. My only mistake was not putting a piece of scrap plywood under the kick stand and it dug into the gravel a bit. It wasn't enough to create a problem, but it could've if I wasn't careful. Jinman's thread on removing and attaching the 16LA is excellent and it really is easy to do. The only thing I'd add is to keep the throttle at idle and move the loader control slow and easy. It's surprising how little you need to move it to release the loader from the mount.

I was one of those people looking for your thread on this subject. I sent jinman a private email looking for it. He was kind enough to email me back the link. It is very kind of you to take the time to put the thread together, and now to set up another link so we can all share it is also very kind. My thanks to you.

I have been accessing this board for some time now. I have to say that the folks in the NH board are very good at supporting other NH owners, and those interested in a NH. I can only conclude there are quality people with a quality product, and they are happy about it.

Slippy,

I second that!

Jim,

I learned something with my 12LA this weekend. You guys may say, "well, duh." /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif But I guess it just hadn't occured to me. I wanted to take the loader off so I could mow (about 8:30 A.M.), but I also knew the sun was going to come out and heat the fluid up while it was off - and we all know what happens then. I decided that I wasn't going to take it off and started mowing. Well after about 20 minutes I decided to go ahead and take it off. Took it off as usual. When I went to put the loader back on about 5:30 or so the loader had actually "cooled" down even the son and everything had gotten hotter. Make reconnecting the hoses a brease to put on.

Just something I thought I'd share. So in condensed form, my tip is to run the tractor a few minutes before removing the loader.

Jim, if I understand what you are saying, the 20-minute operating period was enough to heat the fluid above what it would have been by just sitting idle in the sun. The time after you took the loader off was actually a cooling-down period. It sounds like a system that works. I usually remove my loader in the shade of a tree so it won't heat up. I've had good luck with that method too.

Slippy, I think that not only the NH forums are full of helpful people, but all of TBN has a helpful attitude. I've never seen a group like this before. It's almost like family. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
