Seems that I have a leaking water pump on my 1720 Ford. Dealer quoted me $600+ to fix and that was if I removed the loader. Another $175 for them to remove. I'm thinking I should just do it myself. Has anyone ever pulled a 770B loader? Never done it before, but it looks to come off pretty easy. Just not sure how to support the rear of it once disconnected. Also, is anyone familiar with the 1720 enough to tell me if the loader actually has to be removed to change out the water pump? The radiator has to come out according to the shop manual. Not sure if it can be pulled straight up or it has to come off the side. The loader will definitely be in the way some what, but I'd like to know if the job can be done with it left on. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Nick.

Nick, first off, you need to talk to the dealer after YOU take the loader off. The 770B IS a Quick-Tach loader. That is what makes it a 770B instead of a 770A which was a fixed frame loader.
You remove it as follows:
1. Park on a level surface with loader bucket flat on ground.
2. Loosen retainer anchors on the bottom of the loader uprights, #11. Remove the pins in the front subframe hooks, #20
3. Start the tractor, pull loader valve to lift position. The loader frame will rotate around the front subframe posts. Rotate the loader frame and back away slowly until the front frame turns down and acts as a stand. Watch your loader hoses so as not to snag or pull too far out.
4. Once the frame is down, shut the tractor off. Jiggle the loader control all ways to relieve pressure in the loader lines. Make sure the lines are marked or mark them to make installation easier. Remove the lines from the quick couplers.

To install:
1. Drive up to frame/stand.
2. Shut the tractor off. Couple hoses back to hydraulic lines.
3. Start tractor and move loader control to lowering position. As loader frame rotates over front frame posts, drive forward slowly until the frame hooks seat on posts. Continue to rotate the rear frame down onto the subframe until seated and you can lift the bucket off of the ground slightly.
4. Pin the loader frame hooks and tighten the rear frame anchors tightly.
5. After operating tractor awhile, go back and tighten the anchors.

Now, if you want to change the water pump, you'll want to remove the side shields and hood. Drain the cooling system, remove the radiator hoses, unbolt the radiator on the bottom on either side and any other supports on top/sides. Lift radiator out of tractor. Loosen the alternator and remove the fan belt. Remove the fan and water pump.

The water pump runs about $160. new from NH. You should probably change your thermostat and the 'L' shaped bypass hose at this time as well. Inspect radiator hoses, radiator cap and fan belt at this time to consider replacing. Replace the coolant with premixed or 50/50 mix of SCA added diesel coolant.

Good luck!

Been looking at loader removal videos on YouTube. Looks pretty straight forward, other than the fact that I don't think my loader has those support legs that everyone else's seems to have. Going to have to figure something out. Anyone pulled an older loader before without the legs? I'd be interested to hear your experience. Thanks, Nick.

I forgot that model used legs, but you may be able to swing the 'nose'/front frame down to make the stand OR use jack stands to support.
