Is it as simple as using wrenches to remove a coupler off a loader hose? Do you have to apply teflon on the threads before putting it back on?

Yes and don't get any tape in the line start winding the tape on a few threads back..........

Do you wind the tape on to the right (clockwise) or left (counterclockwise)?

No tape. Paste.

A small fragment of tape in the system can mean a huge chunk of change to remove it.

tape or paste. needs to be for hydraulic or fuel usage. start a couple threads from the end and wind in the direction of the threads when tightening. a great tape is Mill Rose Blue Monster Blue seal tape. Around $5.00 and up.Hydraulic paste is fairly expensive.

First of all you need to identify the type of fitting that is being used, I'm not familiar with what Kubota uses, but most newer hydraulic systems use either SAE O-ring or a O-ring face seal fittings. Neither of these require any sealant to be used on the threads because the threads are only a mechanical joint not a sealing joint, the O-ring does the sealing. Just lubricate the o-ring if its dry. If you do have a tapered pipe thread, I recommend Loctite 545 hydraulic / pneumatic sealant as it contains no fillers or particles that could contaminate system fluids, foul valves, or clog fine filters and screens and it works great. I first started using 545 when I was designing high speed punching machines that used servo valves that were very sensitive to any contamination. I've never had a leak on a joint that I use it on.:)

Loctite 545 is the best for all your pneumatic and hydraulic needs. Learn early and be rewarded for a lifetime.
