I want to paint the inside of the rim. I took out the nuts but cannot get the rim off. I hammered it some, no luck. I would rather not pound the thing senseless.
Any easier way to get this thing off? How about the acetylene wrench?
I had a similar problem on one of my tractors. I finally got it off by pushing on the top, bottom, and sides of the tire with a 2x4 levered from the transmission case. I used a wire brush to clean the mounting flange of the wheel and hub, and put some anti-seize compound on it to keep it from happening again.
The torch may work, but putting that much heat onto a wheel with a tire on it terrifies me. I would just use mechanical means. For me, levering worked better than hammering. The tire and wheel assembly is so heavy that walloping stuff with a hammer just bends the metal of the wheel more than moving things.
