Busted the left lower lift arm on the Ford 445 yesterday. Needed to replace the right one (messed up socket) anyway, so I just ordered a couple new ones.

Started pulling the existing arms off. . .and can't get the "main" pin out. The pin in the bracket under the rear axle. Nut came off just fine, but what's the trick to getting the pin out? I'd rather not use brute force and ugliness if there is a more elegant solution.

Any pics? Might try to heat the pin, a bit of penetrating oil , and few good taps using a food flat bottom pin of the same dia. I have also used heat and then immediately cold (dry ice) to loosen things up. Seeing a pic might help to visualize extraction method a bit better. try not to mushroom out the tip as it make it difficult to take out. A dremmel and right stone you can reform the tip of the damaged pin.

Jack,

Nice, I'll get a good quality locking pliers (Vise Grip), or even an adjustable wrench on the square end on the left. I'd heat the joint with a propane torch , spray some penetrating oil and turn the vise grip up and down basically rotating the pin in the hole, once lose then I would hit the vise grip from right to left with a hammer while rotating. I think there is a pretty good chance to get them out relatively easy.

JC,

PS. push come to shove , a portable band saw can also cut thru it without a huge issue.

Wonderful. I'll pick up a new shot of propane Monday and see what happens.

I used a crescent wrench before I asked the question. . .and all that did was bust the wrench. So I'll apply heat and retry.

Many thanks!

Don't forget the penetrating oil after you heat it up. It penetrates better after parts getting hot. Probably electric heat gun would work also but not as fast.

JC,
