I'm trying to remove the steering wheel on my 2310 and need help. I figured that once I popped off the center cap, I would find some threaded holes to use a steering wheel puller on, but the three holes surrounding the center hole are not threaded. I tried using two bars of steel across the steering wheel and over top of my puller, but it's a really strong press fit and only tried to end the steering wheel. I have a large three jaw puller that I could try, but I figured it will ugly up the steering wheel. Does anyone have a manual and if so, what does it say? Thanks

It says, remove nut and pull steering wheel upwards off the splined steering shaft.

Try giving the wheel a yank. If it does not pull off, thread the nut back on until the threads are not quite coming out the top. While applying steady pressure on the wheel, have some one tap the nut with a hammer. Even wheels that need a puller come off with this method. Don't hit it too hard its $850.

I really want to use a hammer, but I'm really afraid of damaging this unit, since it costs so much. The good news is now that the only reason my steering wheel is loose is one of the bolts holding the steering assembly in palce is loose. I though I had that much wobble in the shaft. I t appear to be leaking around the upper most seal and actually not really bad.

Don't hit it hard, just some good taps will possibly do it. That should not hurt anything.

I got it off, but had to use a large gear puller which messed up the steering wheel a little. The best advice I can give anyone who attempts this repair is to mark with a scribe or sharp object, the last two inches of the bottom of this steering cylinder to ensure alignment. I didn't, thinking I could keep it straight, but didn't. I think I got it back together right, we will find out in a few days. I have to get new mounting washers. This is what was causing the steering wheel to wobble. The steering unit was fine, except for the top seal.

A little spray of PB Blaster rust remover 5 minutes prior to pulling the steering wheel off is very helpful at times.

It works, It works. I did call my dealer, who after some searching was able to find a schematic of the steering unit, so I could make sure I got the small B-B sized ball in the right hole (It came rolling out and I wasn't 100% sure where from). The good news is that it works and does not leak. A word of advice, I you find that your steering wheel is loose, it is probably the mounting washers, which are made to tear and protect the steering unit. From this moment on, I will stop my tractor, get off and move the kids toys, instead of hanging off the side and holding onto the steering wheel to grab and throw the toy out of my way.

I never had any doubt!
Do you think you can post the schematic, so it will be readily avaliable?
