Renovation of an old Bank Barn

/ Renovation of an old Bank Barn #21
Well im in the same boat man. We have a old barn that was built in 1950.Now this barn had no love for the last 40 years. So im taking upon my slef to get it fixed. I so far have about 2000 invested into it but that has only got my tin on the lean too and 3 coats of paint(i think i used 1200 worth of paint alone so far.) I also fixed all of the sliding doors and closed one off permantly. Now the next thing for me is to finish the tin roof and windows this year. I figure its gonna cost me 10,000 to have it all finished. But it might cost me more in the end once i put tin on all of the walls. If mine was in any worse shape, i would have torn it down, but it was a selling point to me when we bought our place.

Dave,

What is your intentions for the structure????

If you want to run livestock, bank barns were made when families had 12 kids to do the chores (like shoveling poo, lots and lots of poo) and bucket loaders hadn't even been thought of yet so you can't exactly use your 50 horse tractor to get in there. They are usually extremely impractical for modern day operations.

AND yours isn't even that old. If it was a hand hewn beauty from 1835, that would be one thing, make it into a house or sell the frame, but unless you have some compelling reason to save it, my vote is to let it go. Bring in a crane and dismantle and reuse materials to build your dream woodshed if you want to feel good about recycling, but from a practical side, let it go.

My 2 cents.
