Renting 3pt attachments

What can you rent in your area? I've called the rental places around here asking about things like landscape rakes and bush hogs, but no one rents them out. They have compact tractors with front end loaders, mini-excavators, back hoes, and stuff like that, but they don't have any 3pt hitch attachments for rent.

Would you rent 3pt hitch attachments if you could or would you still prefer to buy?

Some of our rental yards have them, but only let them go out with their rental tractors. When I asked one guy why, I think he said it was a liability issue if something goes wrong and/or you brake something, then you could come after them and they don't want the hassle.

But yes I think renting some attachments that don't get used often would make good financial sense. You just need to verify the correct size implements where being used on the correct size machine.

What has really worked nice for me is I have two neighbors with CUT's. We kind of buy equipment based on what others don't have. So then we do this thing called sharing. It works pretty good.

I have never rented 3ph equipment but I would if I needed it for a one time job. The Kubota dealer in my town rents 3ph equipment. I have gotten quotes from them before and they wanted $50 a day plus deposit for post hole diggers and box blades. Don't know what else they rent or what they charge for other implements, but the prices they quoted me sure seemed reasonable.

Around here, a lot of the tractor dealerships rent 3ph equipment.

But I would rather buy the equipment. I figure if I need it once, I'll need it again, and luckily my wife agrees. There's a lot of equipment that you can buy used at auctions, through classifieds and just seeing them on the side of the road.

I talked to the rental place closest to me last weekend. They had a tiller, box blade, rear blade, and bush hog. I was hoping to find a 3 pt aerator as I already have the others mentioned.

mosey i checked my area they all rent rear blades and land scape rake but i finale found one place that rents post hole diggers i plan on buying one but will rent first to see how it works im' in the granite state of n.h.

Around here, there are a lot of rental places for every imaginable 3pt attachment, as well as the Bobcat line. The thing to watch is that the renter is completely responsible for any breakage - and that might include someone else wearing it out but you break it and pay.

One problem is having the attachment rented out when you want it, or finding out that someone bought it after renting it, so there isn't a replacement yet. Turns out that renting is a pre-cursor to buying, and it happens quite often. I imagine that is one reason that the rental business is good, because it sells things.

Sorry to hear that your dealers are not enjoying the rental business, as one would think it would be good everywhere.

Up here in Northern Vt, there are several rental yards in my area that will rent you about any type of 3 pt attachment you could want. I rent a brush hog once a year to mow my Dad's field. I think I paid $55 a day the last time I rented one.
