Hi all,

Rear tire question,

Ford 1710 with ag tires. Previous owner changed the rim part of the rear wheels (not the center/hut) due to loading with salt water years ago.

So, I have somewhat rusty inner wheels, with fairly new rims - but they are silver. I am restoring/repainting the whole tractor with a default? blue/white color scheme. So do I have to do anything to the rims to prep then for a new coat of white? Should I scuff everything with a wire brush? Do I have to use primer?

Any other tricks / things I need to know?

thanks in advance,

degrease with a soap like simple green or that purple stuf.. brush grease / oil off with scrub brush... then pressure wash those centers.. that will remove anything loose. then prime.. then paint.

I'd remove the rime and then unbolt hte center and hang them if you want a good looking job.. that way you can get at both sides.. not worry about overspray or masking.. and can then clean the hub of the tractor andprime and paint it as well.

have been into tractors for not very long - anything special I need to do if I want to remove wheels? I have hydraulic jack and jack stands that I use for my cars - will this suffice?

On the 1710's were the lug nuts body color blue? Or was everything white? Trying to make it back to a somewhat original look without breaking the bank / worrying too much on making it showroom. I need to get it out in the woods to get some roads/trais built, and firewood out.

Final - off topic - but what the heck question. I live in the mountains of Vermont. Trying to build my first roads into the back of my property - have a couple different lines I am considering. Of course the most direct seems a little steep - what type of angle is my maximum for driving a tractor more or less straight up? (Ford 1710, FEL, rear pto winch left on for weight.)

I'd rather not have to tack, but I'm also a fan of not dying.

thanks,

make sur e the jack stands are rated for the load.. and if on soft ground place timber under them. for that matter.. timber makes good cribbing too.

if you mess much with the front end then wedge the front axle stops for safety.
