I am trying to replace AM128925 (Brake Safety Switch) on a 455.

It is riveted on. Any idea why Deere would use rivets instead of a bolt?

I will need to remove the footrest to get access to the brake safety switch. This diagram:
John Deere Parts Catalog

looks a bit different than my 455. I think mine has more bolts holding and it also has a depth gauge adjustment knob on it. Am I looking at the wrong diagram for a 455?

I believe that there are 3 maybe 4 versions of the wiring harness on the 4X5 model/series. All had the brake switch and neutral switch riveted to the mounting brackets. Reason: Cost to mount the switch to the bracket and then put the bracket into the machines. The assembly uses a jig for positioning the switch/riveting it in place and testing for proper operation. Riveting is faster than bolting and/or screwing it together. TIME=MONEY

You will have to either grind the rivet or drill it out, maybe have to do both. The thing is getting room to do it.

Will it be okay for me to bolt the new brake switch to the frame or should I use the specified rivets?

It is up to you, either get the rivets or get the proper size bolts/screws with locking nuts and use red locktite
