Hi guys we just purchased 104 acres in Buffalo Tx and the hogs are going crazy tearing up my fields. We went out Saturday night and put the 223 poison pill in three. My question is what's the best way to fill in / repair the damage they are causing. My biggest issue is I don稚 have a tractor yet, that is on the plans for April or May so will be using my ATVs. I was thinking of using some 18 Wheeler tires fashioned in a drag. Or a 10 section of chain link fence weighted down and just dragging it back and forth.
Thanks

Most of the time I just leave it along and let the rains smooth it out. For the really deep holes, I drag the mower down low in the direction of the most dirt and sort of pull/drag the dirt back in with the front edge of the bush hog as I go over the area.

If you want to drag an area, go with something straight and heavy with an edge to it. An I beam, or railroad track work better then a log because they cut and carry the dirt better. Chain and tires just sort of slide over everything.

I made a drag out of angle iron and solid cement blocks that works great. At first it was too heavy, so I took out a few blocks to get it just right.

I do not want to waylay this thread but I heard a recent story on the news. Some government agency is going to begin a feral hog reduction program, I think in 2018. Maybe it will help. Somebody must be, at least, a little concerned.

I prefer the caliber .223 solution @ 80 cents per hog, rather than the federal government solution at probably $4,000 per hog.

I was wondering about exactly that situation, Jeff. From what I've heard/read this eradication program would not be a new thing. History shows us that so many of our species elimination programs end up with something worse than the original problem.

Just be careful dragging something heavy with your ATV. I have done this and they will overheat quickly when dragging something heavy.

Otherwise, the tires or the chain link would probably work.

When they were digging up my back yard last year I drug a roller over the damaged area to smooth it out. Ground had to be wet for it to work.

I got two Saturday Night around 2300 and the Wife got one in the Wee hours about 0400, she got up to pee and there four piglets and a sow in the front by the pond so she smokes the sow, and Scares the CRAP out of me..... In the next few weeks we are going to build a few traps.

Wild hogs are classified as a "nuisance animal", which means there are no limitations on when or how you hunt them. You can hunt them from helicopters with automatic weapons (search YouTube for videos). Last year, in the county next to me, there is a bounty on them--$5/tail.
