[FYI: I searched the forums and found several threads about installing Racor water separators, but none on replacing existing fuel filter housing with a Racor.]

So, I got some water in my tank and had to drain it and tractor still isn't running 100% (will post the issue in a separate thread), but I want to make sure that this doesn't happen again. I always use a water separator filter funnel, but evidently it failed (Mr Funnel, several years old). Will be putting some Goldenrod filters on my fuel drums and also want to put a water separator on my tractor (Kubota L3400).

So I was looking at it and it looks like the existing fuel filter housing is plumbed on the suction side of the fuel lift pump. I'm wondering if anyone has just replaced the existing filter housing with a Racor separator/filter. I'm looking at the Racor 120 AS. It does operate as both a water separator and a 2 micron particulate filter and is has plenty of throughput for the tractor (15 gph) so I don't see a problem. The (extremely overpriced) Kubota paper filters are almost the same price as the replacement Racor spin on filter and it would be best not to have to replace both of them. And the Racor probably does a much better job of particulate filtering.

Seems like the hard part is rigging up an adapter to mount the Racor where the old filter housing bolts on. I have basic metal fabrication capability (welding, cutting, drilling, etc), so I think I can rig something up. Not exactly sure how big the Racor 120 AS is, though.

What do you think? Is the existing filter housing location the best place for it? Or would it be better to leave the existing filter housing alone and put the Racor somewhere else? Like on the loader frame somewhere? I don't want it to be in a vulnerable location. Any suggestions?

Nobody interested?

Anyway, here is a diagram fi the fuel system:

You can see that the fuel filter is on the suction side of the pump. Looks like mounting the Racor is a matter if fabricating a new mounting bracket to replace the existing on (part 90).

Looks like the Racor 120 AS is about 3.25" wide, 6.6" tall and 3" deep. It seems like it would mount in place of the existing filter just fine, but would stick out slightly more and stick down quite a bit more.

Anyone think the larger size of the Racor would make it significantly more vulnerable to being damaged that the existing filter? Should it be mounted somewhere else?

Here's a video. Very happy with how and where I mounted it. Mounting details start at about 6:22 in the video.

People are interested but we are watching on your other thread. All this one does is clog up the forum I'm sure.

Everything you have here - is there.
