Hi, I'm a new member. I co-own a John Deere 670. The seat is getting to be in really bad shape. I'm wondering how people have replaced theirs. There seem to be some available for it, but quite expensive. And some cheaper "universal" ones, but I can't quite figure out how to determine if they''l fit. I think taking to an car upholstery shop is out, due to too much time out of action. Thanks.

It will depend on how fancy or plain you want to go. eBay might be one place to look.

How many hours did you get out of the 670 seat?

Take it off and make a template of the bolt pattern and distances. Go to a tractor store and see if something will match up.

I reckon the tractor has about 1200 hours on it, but the seat has been
pretty shabby for quite awhile.

Take it off and make a template of the bolt pattern and distances. Go to a tractor store and see if something will match up.

Good suggestion, thanks.

I wonder what a "universal" seat means ? Are there just a few bolt
patterns ?

It means the seat bottom has several slots running parallel and perpendicular to one another. When you look at the bottom, you'll see what I mean.

The idea is slots (rather then holes) should fit different fastener locations.

BTW, a 790 seat should fit a 670. There was a number of parts common to both tractors.

Actually LOOKED at the thing today (duh) and there are no brackets or bolts (kinda). There are brackets welded to the bottom of the seat that slide over each end of a 7" long tube that is attached to the tractor; a bolt (with cotter pin at one end) slides through this to hold it in place and allow it to pivot at the front of the seat (so it tilts forward to discourage rainwater collection and allow access to some stuff underneath the seat).

So it's either got to be the exact seat or somehow buy (or fabricate) brackets that bolt to the bottom of a universal seat and match up with the pivot-bearing properly.
