How do I get at the switch when I want to replace the ignition switch? There are 4 bolts next to the steering wheel shaft, does it seem likely that you just remove these and can then get at the bottom of the dash panel and remove the switch?

I have the G152 Bolens that needs the switch replaced.

I have a G152 and I was actually just tightening the key switch today. (have no idea how it worked itself loose!) Anyway...I was able to reach up under the panel and grab hold of the back of the switch with my hand to hold it and tighten the front nut that holds it in place. I pulled it out from the back while I was there (just to see if I could do it) Seemed to come right out. I could have then loosened the wires on the back and removed it completely. I didn't actully remove it completely, just wanted to see if I could. I'm sure there are other ways to do this but this seems to work.

I have a G-174 model and my key switch has also been working loose. I disconnected the battery and then removed the nut and applied some locktite blue to the threads and screwed it back together. Locktite blue is a "removable thread glue." It should keep the nut from backing out, due to vibration. I also disconnected the battery cable so in case the key switch fell back under the dash it would not arc against something

You'll need to pull the steering wheel off and then take out the four bolts as you mentioned and pull the "dash" over the steering wheel shaft. The steering wheel has a threaded cap that you'll remove to get access to the steering column nut which will allow you to remove it.

As mentioned, it is a good idea to remove battery power while you do this to prevent inadvertant electrical connections (shorts) from being made.

You *might* be able to get away with not removing the steering wheel and just lifting the dash to allow better access but removing the steering wheel helps greatly although they can be difficult to remove off the splined shaft.
