I'm looking for replacment blades for my Craftsman 46" mower. This is my first season with this new mower and I've already had to sharpen the blades 4 times. My lawn is new and I have lots of rocks that eat up the blades. I'd like to find a tough aftermarket set....any ideas?

I've had good luck with these folks:

Manufacturer's Supply

Look under AYP for Craftsman blades or other manufacturers who make mowers for Craftsman.

I don't think you will ever find a blade that doesn't need sharpening. I just keep several sets and swap them as needed. I quit sharpening blades and toss them when the fin wears out due to being eroded by sand and they don't have any lift. If I used only one set of blades, I'd wear out a set every year. I mow about one acre and my sand is brutal.

I did notice at Tractor Supply store they offer no name mower blades..not bad price, but han again you get what you pay for.

If your useing mulching blades??? try a standard blade, for they might stay sharpen tad longer.

I have had good luck with mowproducts.com for replacement blades of any kind I needed, prices aren't bad either. You can purchase by blade and hole size or by manufacture.

Be careful when you sharpen them not to get them too hot. If the steel turns blue you have softened the metal considerably. A low speed or hand crank grinder is best. Otherwise just grind each side briefly.

Lowes has a nice orderly display of common blades...I saw a quite a few craftsmans there a few weeks ago. But if I were you I'd measure the length and arbor hole in case you have to cross reference. There's really no blades that hold of to stones.
